Copy editing etiquette

Is it considered proper to answer a copy editor's query with "fuck you"? Or is the more nuanced "fuck yourself" preferred?

    You know, the late, great Ed McBain had a good line that I think would be appropriate for copy editors:

    "A fart on thee!"
