It's always somewhat amusing to listen to non-novelists try to figure out the writing process.
This story in Slate about Agatha Christie is pretty funny. Her process makes absolute sense to me, but I'm sure it's baffling when you come at it from the outside.
Another thing to like like about Christie.

Maybe I should explain that the notebooks were probably meant as temporary aids as she worked things out, and that the real outline (and trail) of her work existed only in her head. Anyone trying to reconstruct my books from my notebooks, even those devoted to a single project, would think I was insane...
